The Ethernet 1-Wire Interfaces offer the convenience of utilizing preexisting LAN/WLAN as the backbone of your 1-Wire network. All Ethernet 1-Wire Interfaces provide a simple to use high level control for many of the most popular models of 1-Wire devices. These factors should be considered when selecting the right model for your application:
The OW-SERVER-ENET-2 allows a maximum number of 22 1-Wire devices to be connected with the high level support being used. Utilizing the low level command set in the OW-SERVER (OWFS does this for instance), it can support the equivalent number of devices as the HA7Net (up to 100 devices). To achieve a simplified installation of additional 1-Wire devices, it is recommended to use the JB6 1-Wire junction box, which provides six Rj11 jacks for connecting sensors.
The HTTP POST function within the OW-SERVER and TC-SERVER is particularly of value in situations were the software may be operating in a cloud based service. The HTTP POST function enables the OW-SERVER and TC-SERVER to initiate the transmissions from behind a firewall without special network configurations. The OW-SERVER (Rev 2) also features TCP socket function introduced in firmware version 1.34 which enables 1-Wire devices readings to be polled and written to from behind the firewall.
The OW-SERVER's 3 RJ12 ports are 3 separate identifiable 1-Wire networks which increases reliability by minimizing 1-Wire network size and preventing a wiring issue on one network from interfering with the other two channels. The HA7Net has a single 1-Wire network with 3 RJ12 ports.
The OW-SERVER-ENET-2 is the newer product which is being actively developed and improved. The HA7Net is a legacy product that is not recommended for new designs.
The HA7Net and OW-SERVER support many of the same 1-Wire devices while the TC-SERVER's support is limited to the Thermochron / Hygrochron loggers.
