 Included on our Dallas iButton Software CD are both iButton Viewer and
1-Wire Viewer. Both software packages are designed for
exploring iButton or 1-Wire chip features from your PC. Each offers basic
functionality; enabling you to configure iButtons, view data, and export
readings for in-depth analysis by other database applications.
iButton Viewer (Windows-only Application)
iButton Viewer is a Windows-only application that is easy to install and use.
It works with many iButtons including the DS1921 Thermochron iButtons. It
not only enables you to view output on your screen, but it lets you print it as
well. Unfortunately, iButton Viewer does not support all iButtons and it
is no longer updated with new iButton releases.
1-Wire Viewer (Java Based)
1-Wire Viewer is a Java-based software package. In contrast to iButton
Viewer, the 1-Wire Viewer is not compiled for a specific
platform. While we don't think it is as user-friendly as the Windows-only
version, it is continuously updated with support for the latest 1-Wire and
iButton products.
Selecting between 1-Wire Viewer (Java Based) and iButton Viewer (Windows-only

If iButton Viewer supports the iButton
products you wish to use, and you are working in a Windows environment, we
recommend it. This version does support the DS1921G.

of the two different Viewer software packages:
iButton Viewer (Windows-only Application)
Benefits
- Easier to navigate and use.
- Output can be seen on the screen, output to a file, or printed.
- Loads faster and responds faster than Java Based 1-Wire Viewer.
- Does not require JAVA Runtime
- Supports DS1921 iButtons, as well as many others.
Drawbacks
- Compiled application for Windows machines only.
- Does not support the newest iButton models (including, but not limited to
DS1922 & DS1923).
1-Wire Viewer (Java Based)
Benefits
- Supports both Linux and Windows platforms. (However, our CD only installs for Windows)
- Supports all Dallas iButtons (and is updated with new product releases).
Drawbacks
Our Dallas iButton Software CD is included free in the
iButton
